The Secret Weapon to a Successful Business

We’re gonna let you in on a little secret when it comes to graphic design. Great design is more than just a beautiful logo or a nice font. The whole point of what we do is communication; helping businesses communicate with their current and future customers. In order to do this effectively, there’s got to be more substance than just some nice colors to look at. That’s where storytelling comes in.

If you’re able to tell a story, and give people something to sink their teeth into, they become more inclined to connect with that, and want to support a business. For the entirety of the human race, stories have been a mainstay of what keeps us connected both to each other as well as our history. They allow us to connect to our emotions, inspire us, and leave a lasting mark that can sometimes change the way you view life. If you weave this into your design, your marketing, the very fabric of your business, people will be able to form connections with much more ease. You’re not just creating visuals; you’re crafting an experience.

Here’s a few general examples to think about when creating visuals, or even solidifying the values of your business:

How do you want people to feel when they see your brand? What emotions do you want your brand to evoke? Consider the style of your brand identity. Specific colors can convey emotions, fonts can express certain feelings, and your logo itself can tell a story about your brand.

How does the culture of the workplace or product influence the feel of the brand? Is it more of a calm space, controlled chaos, or an organized, rigid business? Communicate this feeling through design elements like thickness of lines, use of sharp or rounded corners, and overall visual style.

What do you want people to ultimately get out of interacting with your brand or product? Having a clear goal for customer interactions is crucial. By tracing this goal back to the initial customer contact, you can weave a story that keeps them interested and feeling connected, ultimately leading to them achieving your goal. Putting thought and intentionality behind the purpose for a brand gives it so much more substance than someone who throws a bunch of trendy styles together in order to look cool.

Storytelling is a powerful tool that can elevate your graphic design from good to great. By weaving narratives into your visuals, you can connect with your audience on a deeper level, build lasting brand loyalty, and achieve your design goals.
